Benefits of Jogging

A few quick benefits of jogging!

If you’ve been following this blog for awhile you probably know that I enjoy jogging a few times a week (and doing a few races a year). A few years ago I was overweight and not in the best shape. I started walking every day, and then slowly started to add in running small increments. This daily habit turned into a commitment to myself to become more healthy overall, not for a wedding, not just for a reunion, but for myself and my life. The more you make the habit a priority the more you start to experience some really great benefits of jogging. It’s winter time in Georgia so I’ve had to keep my morning jogs inside on a treadmill recently. Luckily, we are having unusually warm weather for February and I was able to go running on a nearby trail. Running inside is fine, and it helps keep the habit and produces good results. However, the joy of running outside this morning reminded me of how amazing it is to run in nature. There is life moving all around you, it’s peaceful being away from the hustle of the gym, and it’s mediating… just you and the trail ahead. It’s an amazing experience and it got me thinking about sharing some of the benefits of jogging in this blog today. So here they are:

  • Jogging Helps Prevent Hypertension and Heart Disease
  • Jogging helps control and prevent diabetes
  • Jogging helps you lose weight and reduces body fat
  • Jogging strengthens your joints
  • Jogging is a great leg workout (and it works your core)
  • Jogging gives you feeling of euphoria (the runners high)
  • Jogging reduces and helps control stress levels
  • Jogging is a great way to clear your mind and allow your brain to recharge
  • Jogging builds confidence and boosts motivation
  • Jogging is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get in shape and stay healthy

These are only a few of the many benefits of jogging. If it’s been awhile since you’ve jogged then start with a nice walk outside. If you have been running for awhile then maybe sign up for a race to push yourself further. Either way, find what you enjoy and do it with passion.
