I’ve lived in the Atlanta area for the majority of my life, but never visited SweetWater Creek State Park
That was a mistake. Located only 15min outside of the hustle and bustle of the city is a great Park for getting away, without having to pack a tent. Although, you could if you wanted and stay at the camp-grounds or rent a yurt on the property. If you don’t know what a yurt is you are missing out and need to click here.
The park gets its name from the SweetWater Creek that runs through it (surprise surprise). It feeds a 215-acre lake that is great for fishing or kayaking. The park has several miles of trails. With varying degrees of difficulty so you can enjoy a leisurely walk or an intense climb. The park also features a museum and visitor center that can get you accustomed with the area before you venture off.

One of the neatest things about the park is the old mill ruins. A short mile hike will take you down the-the gully that SweetWater Creek runs through and where the mill is located. You will find people fishing, swimming, and viewing the wildlife. Got a dog? Bring them. Dogs are welcome on the trails and you will see plenty of people with their pets in tow.
If you need a quick break from the city or want a unique place for a date then check out SweetWater Creek State Park. My fiancee and I went and we had a great time exploring somewhere new around Atlanta. To learn more about the SweetWater Creek State Park click here.
