Hops love to grow straight up, you barely have to train them. So that’s why I’m going to show you how to build a hop trellis in this video. A couple months ago I built a hop trellis at Printers Ale, and transplanted my hops from their pots into the ground. You can see that post and video here.
This is not a simple DIY home project. It took a couple tractors and quite a bit of money in materials, but if you got the space, time, money, and you want to grow a bunch of hops sky high then check out the video in the is post and I will teach you how to build a hop trellis. Also, keep in mind that they’re are much smaller hop trellis DIY videos online if you don’t want to try such an undertaking. We’re building a brewery so we wanted a big hop trellis off our patio, and enough hops to put in some beers.
Materials:
- 4 – 6″x6″ posts 26ft long
- 150+ feet of steel cable
- 200+ feet of 3/8inch twine
- 20 Cable Crimps
- Steel Cutting Snips
- Cordless drill with 1/4inch wood bit
- 8 Eye hooks (to secure cable to between posts)
- 4 turnbuckles (to tighten cable between posts)
- 100ft of irrigation tubing + misc parts for connecting tubes to garden hose
