Tomorrow I’m doing my first 10K in a several years. When I was younger I was much more athletic and into jogging, even doing a few marathons. I’ve set a goal for myself to do a marathon in early 2017, and this 10K is one of the milestones along the way to achieving that goal. Aside from my goal jogging should be a regular habit, and here’s some reasons why…
Your Heart!
Obviously, one of the most important organs in your body. Each of us depends on that little guy to keep pumping nonstop for hopefully many decades. The heart works like a muscle the more you train it the stronger it becomes. The stronger the heart the less susceptible to heart problems and diseases you will be later in life.
Weight Loss
This one should be pretty straight forward… the more you move and less you eat, the less you weigh. Jogging is one of the best ways to loss weight, we have evolved to chase and run. Start out slow and make it a habit (eat slightly better) and you will see the pounds slide off quickly.
Sleeping
What happens when you’re really tired? You pass out. What makes you tired? Physically exerting yourself, like jogging. So… jog more sleep better.
Getting High
The runners high people talk about is actually linked to the same feeling you get from smoking marijuana… I know this one is a stretch so read about it here.
Them Bones
Jogging strengthens and improves bone and joint function while also keeping bone diseases at bay like osteoporosis.
Stress/Mood
Job annoying you, low on energy, feeling blue. Then take 2 jogs and call us in the morning. Jogging has been proven to reduce stress, improve mood, and help organize your thoughts.
Muscles
“We are going to pump you up” Jogging is one of the best ways to build muscle and burn fat, making the muscles you do strengthen more visible.
Lungs
Tired of walking up stairs and losing your breath? Well there’s a solution to that… Jogging! Your longs breath in oxygen and remove carbon dioxide. This is not easy. However, jogging helps make your lungs much more efficient at doing this.
Immune System
Running causes your body to produce more white blood cells which help prevent diseases. Also, since you are raising your heart rate and strengthening your cardio vascular system by jogging it’s like you are sending these troops on double time marches through your body to seek out invaders!
It’s Free
There are many ways to stay in shape some are cheap and some are expensive (any gym). Jogging is essentially free, you can do it anywhere, at anytime. Plus you get all the stuff listed above as an added bonus!
