Every year Guinness has a giant contest across the nation to see who can pour the perfect pint of Guinness. Guinness fans all know what I’m talking about, but if you have never heard of how to pour a proper pint of Guinness check out this video here. Bartenders compete in competitions at very cities around the U.S. and then the winners of those competitions go on to the final round in NY. The Atlanta Semi-Finals were held at a Taco Mac in Buckhead. Through my job I get to go to the event every year, last year I brought my brother (who is a big Guinness fan), this year I brought my Dad who brought his brother Mark, and then also his friend Berry (who had just become a chancelor in the Taco Mac University).
So basically bartenders come and compete against other bartenders to see who can pour the best pint of Guinness. There is a panel of judges and they choose the winner. It’s a single elimination bracket, and people get pretty into it, because the bartender is also repping whatever establishment they work at, so you have “fans” for them. It’s a good time, and for us not participating we get to drink a lot of Guinness, eat, and carry on with our friends and watch. These events are generally open to anyone so find out if one is in you area next year!
Here’s a pic of the competition going on.
