Brew Day – Rillo Red

Well our annual Cold Glass – Brew N’ Q 5K is coming up in several weeks so it’s time to brew up a batch of home brew for the event. Every year I host a 5k at my home and invite friends and family and we jog a 5k in the morning, and then enjoy some of my home-brew and also enjoy some other craft beers while getting to eat delicious BBQ normally grilled by my brother. He’s gotten pretty good at it too. It’s a really fun time, and I always put the event on for free as a fun event to share my interests with my family and friends. This year, however, I’m going to ask everyone for donations and give the money to a local charity. I’m not sure which one yet though.

The beer I’m brewing today is a hoppy Red Ale, I’ve been really into Red Ales and Ambers recently so I decided to make a Red and hop it up a bit since they are sometimes hard to find in the market. I’m using cascade, summit, and Amarillo¬†(hence the name) for the hops, and a little bit of victory and Munich¬†malts (along with others). I’m hoping to get a malt forward beer with a bit of hop bite on the back end. It’s been awhile since we’ve brewed on ‘No Tiers’ (my all-grain system), and today is going to be a tough one. It’s very cold in GA today and we are having some serious wind and that really effects these propane burners which in turn affects many aspects of brewing.

I’ll let you know how it turns out.
